This project was created as part of the BRUSH BRUSH Workshop, led by Belgian designer Stephanie Specht.
The workshop brought together 23 participants from diverse creative backgrounds, including designers and artists. Working under the shared theme “READ ME,” each participant created a unique poster by applying their own custom-made brush patterns to typography.
Three types of brushes were used throughout the workshop: Art Brushes, Scatter Brushes, and Pattern Brushes. Participants were free to choose and develop the brush styles that best reflected their individual visual language and creative approach.
One of the most compelling aspects of this project is its focus on exploration rather than perfection. Through continuous practice and experimentation, participants were encouraged to discover new possibilities and unexpected outcomes. Instead of fearing mistakes, the process embraced trial and error, recognizing that some of the most interesting and successful results can emerge by chance.
As a final exercise, participants formed pairs and exchanged their chosen or self-created typefaces. Each person then completed the other participant’s work using their own brushes and visual interpretation. The final piece shown here is the result of this collaborative process.
